1. Just Call Meme

“Lots of us can relate”

Since the advent of technological advancement in mobile phones, texting and emailing have become habits of people everywhere and on any occasion. Emojis are also used to demonstrate real emotions a user is trying to convey.

As most people live hectic lives, texting or emailing just fits better as it’s non-disruptive compared to calls. According to one study, 75% of millennials would rather text than talk, as u/patoomag’s post on UCR Reddit clearly shows.

2. Making New Friends

College allows you to try new things and make decisions on your own, perhaps for the first time in your life. It may also be the first time to be away from friends.

Leaving home for college is an exciting moment, but it can be hard to make the leap alone. Finding new friends is one of the difficult adjustments a student may experience, and that’s why u/suazoflame asks other new students to meet to get to know each other.

3. Wandering Around Campus

Most college campuses are moderately sized, with several classrooms located in different buildings across campus. In this post, u/hulasteve2020 wants to know if a bike, scooter, or skateboard is needed to get around campus, and u/bluelephantz_jj shared on UCR Reddit that walking is a preferred method. Students get exercise by walking 10 minutes across campus for the next class. However, there are many people also using skateboards, electric scooters, and bikes to roam around.

4. Learning Management System

The COVID-19 virus plunged the world into uncertainty as it continues to pose a threat to people and institutions, specifically educational institutions, across the globe. These schools closed down temporarily to protect students as well as educators. In a study done by UNESCO, almost 143 countries and over 1.2 billion students are affected by this pandemic.

Fortunately, with the help of technology, learning for students continues through online learning by use of learning management systems, such as Canvas, Edmondo, Google Class, Schoology, and many more. As u/RubbersoulTheMan asks other students about how the online courses are delivered, u/hopefultransfer2022 thinks that all courses are shifting from iLearn to Canvas, while others suggested checking for emails from the school.

5. Triggering Fire Alarm

For second-year students at UCR, Glen Mor is the number one choice for housing, designed as a bridge between the apartment-style living and Residence Hall program. Resident students enjoy the amenities and privacy of a traditionally furnished apartment combined with student-friendly services and a Dining Plan. In addition, it offers single-occupancy rooms in two or four-bedroom plans. Glen Mor houses 1,300 residents, from sophomores and beyond.

Although cooking is allowed at Glen Mor with their modular kitchen plan, u/heavy_hearted458 asks other students on UCR Reddit for advice on how not to trip the fire alarm. Many suggested opening the windows, covering the food to prevent steam, cooking with a fan, and opening the vents.

6. Must-Haves for Campus Living

Living on campus for the first time can be very exciting for students, precisely how u/cripsyant feels, but knowing what to bring or not bring can be tricky. Luckily, u/Rufiooo7 shared the needed information, such as shirt hangers, dustbuster, bedding, pillow, and toiletries. Additional items include water filters, seat cushions, ergo chairs, and more.

As for clothes, students should pack just enough to accommodate however often laundry is done. A silicon tray from amazon will do for ice, but a mini machine worth $120 is also available.

7. International Student

Getting your education abroad can be a life-changing experience for students. It allows personal development in a way that would not have been possible by staying at home. Traveling and living on your own can give you a greater sense of purpose and independence, expanding your world tremendously.

In a post on UCR Reddit, u/chindnfhfbbd shares a plan to study abroad and asks questions about it. Students who have tried studying overseas shared their thoughts, like u/DPizzaFries advising to be ready for lots of paperwork.

8. Trekking Around UCR

In this UCR Reddit post, u/Lower-Worry6248 asks for good treks around the university. u/eamonkeogh shares that the Gage Canal has some lovely walks with lots of great citruses and that Dr. Chrobak is the greatest hike expert around UCR.

Built between 1885 and 1859 by Matthew Gage, a Canadian jeweler, the Gage Canal is renowned for being the waterway that ran through White Park, to the adoration and amazement of early visitors to Riverside.

9. Locked Out of Room

Getting locked out of a room, especially on campus, is an experience worth not repeating, and u/peppathepiggy knows it firsthand as he asks for suggestions from others on what to do. Helpful students shared contact numbers for the school’s housing department.

10. Campus Meal Plan

UC Riverside provides most students living on campus with a student meal plan that includes $250 of dining dollars each quarter. Although the food on campus is not cheap, the $250 that comes with the tuition and meal plan does help students’ cost of living.

u/ahhh-itme posted on UCR Reddit to ask for steps regarding the dining dollars’ application. u/Ambi-taneous suggested that groceries offer way more variety of food and fresh vegetables if the Redditor cooks and that Glen Mor Market accepts other forms of payment other than dining dollars.
